Sentinel Formulates an Innovative ZTNA Solution for a Chemical Manufacturer

A global manufacturer of inorganic chemicals for the past 80 years, the customer has worked to advance the next generation of low-carbon ammonia and nitrogen solutions for use in everything from fertilizer to power generation and marine shipping.

Environment

The customer had a number of older on-premises solutions across their facility locations, with a portion of their environment located in the cloud for a hybrid infrastructure that included Microsoft and VMware offerings.

Challenge

Critical portions of the customer’s operations relied on legacy software that could not be updated to modern protocols. The customer engaged Sentinel to help find a solution that could support these aging systems while maintaining secure, reliable, and integrated access to modern cloud resources for their manufacturing facilities. They also needed to replace outdated VPN (Virtual Private Network) appliances, which had become a security risk and operational burden.

Solution

Sentinel worked with the customer to deploy Microsoft Entra Private Access into their environment. This solution was brand new and not publicly available at the time, making the customer one of the first organizations in the world to implement and test it.

Microsoft Entra Private Access is an innovative, identity-focused Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA) solution that enables users to quickly and securely connect to private applications, the cloud, and on-premises technologies without the need for a traditional VPN. Sentinel ensured Microsoft Entra Private Access was tailored to meet the customer’s specific operational and protection requirements.

Results

Sentinel’s deployment of Microsoft Entra Private Access has enabled the customer to strengthen secure connectivity across their hybrid environment. They now have fast, seamless access to both cloud-based and on‑premises resources, including the organization’s irreplaceable legacy software. Users experience more consistent performance and simplified identity authentication; a significant improvement compared to their outdated VPN appliances.

The customer thanked Sentinel for providing expert guidance and leadership throughout this project, ensuring the Microsoft Entra Private Access solution was fully customized and optimized in alignment with business goals. This modernization effort not only improved operational efficiency but also positioned the customer at the forefront of technology innovation within their industry.
