Environment

The customer operates a complex and highly secure infrastructure primarily designed with Microsoft and Cisco solutions. These include M365 as the primary modern work and collaboration platform, Cisco DUO for multi-factor authentication, and secure remote access so employees can access critical applications and files no matter their location or device.

Challenge

While the customer felt confident they had established a strong security infrastructure to protect their users and data, they expressed concern that some of their security solutions might not be properly configured. As Gartner predicts that more than 99% of cloud breaches will be caused by preventable misconfigurations or mistakes by end users, the customer requested that Sentinel provide expert identity and configuration training for their team. 

Solution

Sentinel experts spent a full day training the customer’s team with a common foundation of identity concepts they can apply to their internal networks with consistency. Primary topics for the training included:

  • Centralized identity lifecycle management
  • Enterprise authentication and single sign-on management
  • Enterprise authorization and entitlement management
  • Identity threat detection and response management
  • Identity functions within IT service management

Results

After providing the customer with a clear picture of how to properly configure their security solutions to focus on identity access concepts, Sentinel hosted follow-up conversations and one-on-one sessions to help them turn those concepts into actionable items to improve the overall protection of their environment. By both standardizing and more closely configuring their identity practice across all of their locations, the customer further strengthened their protection and reduced the potential for a breach. The customer felt the training was so beneficial, they asked Sentinel to present on the topic of Security Guardian for Microsoft at their annual technology council meeting for the entire organization.
