Solution
Sentinel worked closely with the customer to address challenges through two key engagements:
Entra Cloud Sync Jumpstart
Sentinel reviewed the customer's Entra ID tenant, AD DS domain, Entra Connect Cloud Sync deployment, and cloud provisioning agent requirements. This included validating client access to Entra ID P1 licensing and reviewing group managed service account (gMSA) requirements.
Sentinel created gMSA objects, installed the agent within the AD DS domain, configured the agent for on-premises application provisioning, implemented scoping filters for security groups, and performed test validations.
Microsoft 365 Group Migration
Sentinel determined which of the customer’s Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) groups were eligible for migration following an evaluation of their Entra ID and Entra Connect Cloud Sync. They also assessed Microsoft 365 Group capabilities, as well as sensitivity labels and role assignments.
Results
Sentinel’s advanced project management methodology ensured optimal coordination of resources, carefully tracked progress, and close monitoring of deadlines through the duration of these engagements. A detailed initial assessment of the customer’s environment provided the Sentinel team with proper guidance and essential customizations to achieve successful deployment and migration without any incidents or configuration errors.
The Microsoft Entra Cloud Sync Jumpstart and M365 Group migration have improved the customer’s identity management in several ways. Lightweight, cloud-managed agents reduced their need for on-premises infrastructure, as provisioning configurations are stored in Entra ID and automatically updated as personnel and permissions change. The customer can now synchronize multiple, autonomous Active Directory forests without the need for complex network configurations. It also means users maintain a single, unified identity across both cloud and on-premises resources for easier access and greater productivity. Enhanced security features including conditional access and multi-factor authentication keep users and identity groups safer from different types of threats.
The customer thanked the Sentinel team for bringing great expertise and collaborative spirit to this project. They were particularly grateful for the care taken to minimize any disruption to their standard operations during the deployment and strong measures to protect important data through the group migration process.View Case Studies by
