Large County Incorporates a Unified Communications Upgrade and Migration
Customer
The customer is one of the most densely populated counties in the Midwest. They provide essential community services, including taxes, elections, law enforcement, and health services, for more than five million residents. Sentinel Technologies has been a trusted partner for nearly two decades, supporting the customer’s network and voice services.
Environment
The customer had a number of Cisco solutions throughout their environment, which included an on-premises Unified Communications platform with phone, voicemail, messaging, and emergency response services.
Challenge
The customer’s existing Unified Communications (UC) hardware had reached end of support, which necessitated an urgent upgrade from version 12.5 to version 15 to ensure continued operational efficiency. Compliance requirements meant the county’s UC platform had to remain on premise and available for use 24/7. The UC upgrade needed to minimize disruption to county services and remain in alignment with organizational goals.
Solution
Sentinel Technologies worked closely with the customer to design a comprehensive solution that included replacing outdated hardware with Cisco BE7M-M6-K9 servers and upgrading to Unified Communications version 15. Devices were strategically located throughout the county to ensure geographic and data center redundancy. Sentinel managed to sustain the 24/7 operational environment thanks to phased and merged migration planning. This allowed for the delivery of communications services during multiple project phases, creating a seamless transition while maintaining full operational support.
Results
The upgrade to Unified Communications version 15 enhanced system reliability and compliance, ensuring the customer’s 24/7 operational services continued without interruption. This marked another successful collaboration in the nearly two-decade, trusted partnership between the county and Sentinel in reinforcement of their network and voice services.
