A prominent manufacturer, the customer focuses on providing clean energy to help ensure a more sustainable world. Their global operations include facilities in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom, enabling the production of low-carbon hydrogen and nitrogen products for fertilizer, emissions abatement, and other industrial activities.

Environment

A majority of the customer’s IT infrastructure had been built on premises at each location using largely Microsoft solutions, with data and communications exchanges managed on a shared network. Their half dozen U.S.-based facilities required robust local compute resources to support operations.

Challenge

As part of a modernization strategy, the customer planned to shift a significant portion of their environment into the cloud. They worked with Sentinel to find a solution that would provide reliable and scalable local compute resources at select manufacturing facilities. Seamless integration with their existing infrastructure was essential for any solution, as was flexibility to scale as their needs evolved. Additionally, the solution had to ensure high availability, robust security, and efficient management of resources across multiple locations.

Solution

Sentinel recommended Microsoft Azure Local (Azure Stack HCI) as the ideal solution for the customer’s specific needs. It allowed them to leverage the power of Azure’s cloud capabilities while maintaining critical local compute resources for their operations. The Sentinel team deployed Azure Local edge clusters at a majority of their U.S. locations without issue.

Results

Sentinel’s implementation of Azure Local edge clusters enabled the customer to achieve significant operational gains across its manufacturing facilities. They now have reliable, high-performance local compute capabilities in alignment with their broader cloud modernization strategy. This hybrid approach has helped the customer improve system availability, strengthen security, streamline operational management, and empower local teams with more dependable tools.
