L’Anse Creuse news briefs

HESTERFEILD, Mich. – Lexie, a L’Anse Creuse Middle School-East student who was diagnosed
with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia in 2000, is attending class at home through a special computer
connection. L’Anse Creuse lead technician, Michael Pilarski, worked closely with Sentinel
Technologies, who donated the special equipment, to hook up a live two-way video and audio feed that enables the student to be part of the classroom. A cart at Middle School-East can be moved from classroom to classroom ensuring the student can actually see and hear her teachers and classmates. Until now, JeanneMarie Rettich, a teacher at Middle School-East, has been Lexie’s homebound tutor. “Due to Lexie’s low immune system, she can’t be around many people for an extended period of time, so this video connection will allow her to attend classes whenever she can,” said Pilarski. “When Art Van Furniture heard of Lexie’s story, they came in and did a room makeover with new furniture and a paint job,” added Pilarski.

“Never underestimate what can be accomplished when a group of people put their heads and
hearts together!” said Superintendent Dr. DiAnne Pellerin.
